Q&A with Rachel Adams

How do you use Illumina products in your research?

With Illumina’s HumanHT-12 Expression BeadChip, expression levels for tens of thousands of genes can be generated simultaneously to look for exciting new targets and identify new applications for known ingredients. The genomic research that goes into many of P&G’s product lines are scientifically validated, published in peer-reviewed journals, and examined in real clinical studies.

What are the advantages of the Illumina Gene Expression workflow?

The Illumina workflow works well for us. I like that you can wash and stain 96 samples at the same time. It adds convenience in that all you have to do is load your chips and scan after an hour or so of hands-on time. While scanning chips, I can work on another project, which is something we haven’t been able to do in the past.

What can Illumina do to help you prepare for future studies?

We are currently using the BeadArray Reader and we’re interested in increasing our array throughput. Decreasing the scan time without sacrificing quality would be beneficial. We are also interested in improving the lifespan of the chips.
