Since 2011, the Agricultural Greater Good Initiative has awarded grants to researchers using Illumina technology to help alleviate global hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. The 2017 grant was awarded to G. Craig Yencho, PhD, and Bode Olukolu, PhD, of North Carolina University. Yencho and Olukolu are developing high-quality de novo whole genome assembly and a SNP array for the hexaploid sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas). They plan to use the grant to develop an SNP array that represents sweet potato diversity around the globe. Tell us how you are working to reduce global hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.
