Product Highlights

Using the Viral Surveillance Panel with Illumina RNA Prep with Enrichment kit allows researchers to obtain whole genome sequencing (WGS) data that can characterize 66 viruses that are of high risk to public health, including SARS-CoV-2, Influenza, Monkeypox Virus, and Poliovirus. The design allows for proactive, broad pathogen surveillance. Hybrid capture panels allow for variation in viral genomes, allowing for mutations and novel strains to be detected.

Target Enrichment for Virus Detection

Target enrichment through a hybrid–capture method allows for whole genome sequencing of multiple viruses, without requiring the high read depth needed for shotgun metagenomic sequencing. WGS of multiple viruses concurrently allows for understanding of viral evolution and broad viral surveillance.1

Compared to other targeted resequencing methods, such as amplicon sequencing, enrichment through hybrid capture allows for larger and tiled probe panels with more comprehensive characterization of multiple viruses at once and difficult to sequence genomes. Additionally, the oligo probes used for hybrid–capture protocols remain effective even within highly mutagenic regions, allowing targeting of rapidly evolving viruses, such as RNA viruses.

Streamlined Workflow

This comprehensive workflow allows researchers and public health scientists to monitor multiple high-risk viruses (both DNA & RNA) with one panel/workflow. This workflow integrates library preparation, target enrichment, sequencing, and data analysis. The workflow is intended to enrich whole viral genomes from total nucleic acid extraction. Corresponding data analysis can be completed with the DRAGEN Microbial Enrichment app.
