Automating library preparation can help increase your lab's efficiency and generate more consistent results. Automation can also help you maintain turnaround times, despite expanding sample workloads. To aid with adopting NGS automation, methods for many of our library prep assays are available from the leading automation companies. Our partners offer a range of automation platforms to address your laboratory's throughput needs.
Both Illumina and our partners have created methods to address the increasing range of automation products and library prep. Methods created by a partner are tested, distributed, and typically supported by that partner. Illumina-developed methods are distributed by Illumina and are usually supported by our partners.
Illumina Qualified Methods are available for several of our library prep kits. We verify that libraries created with these methods perform comparably to manually prepared libraries. These methods are developed by partners who test for functional performance and provide distribution and support. Under the Illumina Qualified program, our partners develop, test and support methods while Illumina provides technical guidance and data review only.
TruSight Qualified is a new category of automation methods where Illumina is more involved with the development, testing and support of oncology-based automated solutions. The goal is to provide an improved experience with automation and our oncology-based library prep products. TruSight Qualified methods are developed by a team consisting of both Illumina and partner automation specialists and are based on the design verification acceptance criteria of each assay. Increased testing and reproducibility studies help demonstrate and characterize the automated method performance. Some examples of additional testing include thermal profile studies for plate incubations, reagent stability and instrument-to-instrument reproducibility studies. To up-level the customer experience, Illumina is now providing first-line support for the TruSight Qualified methods. This includes determining the proper support channel, managing technical issue communications, and ensuring final resolution between Illumina, customers, and partners.

Starting in January 2022 Hamilton will refer to the NGS STAR configuration for TruSight Oncology library preparations as the SBS STAR LSA. All existing Illumina Qualified methods are backwards compatible and will continue to run on this system as this change is in name only.
*In order to accommodate for higher dead volume requirements associated with automated platforms and variation in overfill volumes by the original reagent manufacturer, more than one AmpliSeq for Illumina kit may be required when preparing the maximum number of libraries per kit.
The Fragment Analyzer accurately assesses quality and quantity of isolated nucleic acids and prepared libraries to optimize cluster generation during sequencing. System options accommodate both low- and high-throughput labs.
